Rough Stone: Molecular Taggant
Rough diamonds are marked with trace levels of a unique Molecular Taggant. This chemical tracer provides covert, high-throughput identification and can be verified using handheld detectors, laboratory equipment, or automated vision systems.
Polished Stone: Laser Barcode Marking
After cutting and polishing, diamonds are laser marked with a proprietary micro-barcode using PhotoScribe systems. These secure 2D barcodes are nearly impossible to replicate and are cross-referenced with the original taggant data for lifecycle verification.
Certificate: Spectral Taggant and Encrypted Barcode
When the stone is graded, Microtrace applies a Spectral Taggant to the physical certificate and prints an encrypted barcode linked to the individual gemstone. This allows the certificate itself to be independently authenticated at retail.
Retail & Consumer Experience: Unified Authentication
Retailers and consumers validate both the certificate and the gemstone using a single secure mobile app and detector. The app verifies the taggant on the certificate, then checks that the barcode matches the laser mark on the stone. This dual confirmation verifies the relationship between the gemstone, its authenticated certificate, and the associated provenance and grading information.
